A Reflection of God's Faithfulness in 2024
/Editor’s note: Presiding as the CFNA Board Chair for the 2024 calendar year, Rev. Dr. Douglas Rutt has a few words to say as he transitions out of this position.
Serving as board chair of Christian Friends of New Americans (CFNA) in 2024 was a profoundly enriching experience, showcasing God’s work through His people. CFNA’s mission to welcome and assist refugees and immigrants resonated deeply with me because of my conviction that God's mission often works through migration. The year was marked by significant milestones, challenges, and blessings.
A standout moment was seeing CFNA expand its programs to meet the growing needs of new Americans in our community. The launch of a mentorship initiative paired volunteers with refugees, providing them with practical guidance and encouragement as they adjusted to life in a new country. Equally memorable was the collaboration with local congregations, Concordia Seminary, and area pastors, which brought the people of God together to support English classes, organize supply drives, and extend spiritual care, among many other aspects of CFNA's ministry. A particularly joyful occasion was the ordination of a new Nepalese pastor, highlighting the richness and diversity of God’s kingdom. These efforts illustrated the beauty of unity in service, as God’s people came together to share His love in meaningful ways.
Another pivotal highlight was the transition to the leadership of Dr. Stanish Stanley as Executive Director. His passion, vision, and expertise infused CFNA with fresh energy and direction. It was a privilege to support him during this period of change, and I am confident his leadership will continue to elevate CFNA’s mission and impact.
As I concluded my time as board chair, I was grateful to pass the role to Judith Meyer. Her wisdom, dedication, and experience ensure that CFNA will continue to flourish. To the Board, staff, volunteers, and the entire CFNA community, thank you for your unwavering commitment to this ministry. Your work has inspired me and strengthened my faith in the transformative power of serving others in Christ’s name.
Reflecting on this journey, I am filled with hope and encouragement. CFNA remains a shining example of love and compassion, a beacon of hope for new Americans, and a testimony to God’s faithfulness. I look forward to seeing how He will continue to work through this remarkable ministry in the years to come.
